What is partial hospitalization (PHP)?
Partial hospitalization is structured day treatment. Participants attend clinical programming for several hours a day, most weekdays, and go home each night. PHP sits between inpatient hospitalization and less intensive outpatient care.
Who this level of care is for
Programs at this level typically serve children and teens who need daily clinical structure but not 24-hour supervision — often as a step down after an inpatient stay, or as a step up when weekly outpatient therapy is not keeping up. Each program sets its own age ranges, admission criteria, and clinical focus.
